Jury duty is a civic duty; doing it the week of your surgery, your wedding, or your product launch is not. Courts postpone routinely, if you ask the way your county requires. ren finds the process, files the request, and gets the new date confirmed.
why rescheduling a summons is confusing
Every county runs its own system: a portal here, a phone line there, a paper form somewhere else.
- The postponement window is short, and showing up to ask in person defeats the point.
- Rules differ on how many postponements you get and how far out the new date can be.
- The jury phone line has jury-line hold times.
- Ignore the summons while you figure it out, and it becomes a much bigger problem.
how ren handles it
ren does the ten fiddly steps between the summons and a confirmed better date.
- Reads the summons and finds your court’s actual postponement procedure and deadline.
- Files the request through the right channel: portal, phone, or form, with the reason stated the way courts accept.
- Picks the new window around your calendar, inside the court’s rules.
- Calls the jury line when the portal is down or silent, and holds as long as it takes.
- Gets the postponement confirmed in writing and the new date onto your calendar.
ren confirms the new date range with you before it commits to one, and everything filed in your name, you see first.

questions, answered
Can jury duty actually be postponed?
Almost always, at least once, for work, travel, health, or caregiving. Courts prefer a postponement request over a no-show by a wide margin. The catch is each county’s own process and deadline, which is the part ren handles.
Is asking to postpone the same as trying to get excused?
No. Postponement moves the date; excusal removes the duty and has much stricter grounds. ren files the one you actually want, and will tell you honestly when an excusal request is not going to fly.
What if I already missed the reporting date?
Courts have a path for that too, and using it quickly matters. ren contacts the jury office, explains, and gets you rescheduled before a missed summons escalates.
